MindMaker6® Instructional Guide:
Leveraging the 'Action Buttons' of Values and Beliefs in Yourself and Others
Whether used with one person or with whole teams, MindMaker6 offers the thinking skills professional a superb opportunity to help clients understand how their worldviews color their perceptions, explanations and expectations of the world around them. The instrument is based on the spiral values model of the late Dr. Clare W. Graves, the pioneering multi-disciplinary-minded American psychologist.
This 13-page instructional document was prepared by Dudley Lynch, co-creator of MindMaker6. It begins by reminding the reader that, in facilitating MindMaker6, they, too are “struggling to explain ‘how things appear, how things work and how things are’ from the inside looking out.” His personal and executive coaching suggestions are draw from the very principles that MindMaker6 teaches: Ask for permission to meddle with their beliefs. Remember all rules are ambiguous. Recognize people have a right to be.
In a Q&A about Dr. Graves, Dudley briefly introduces the man, his theory and what made it so unique and earth-shatteringly different. Even if a newcomer to Gravesean theory, a professional educator, personal or executive coach or trainer will be able to respond adequately to most questions from their thinking skills and self development clients after reading this review.
Dudley’s discussion of how to use MindMaker6 is both a tutorial on the model itself as well as a guide to how to collect, present and interpret group findings. Reminding that that any exploration of values and beliefs in an organizational setting must be done with care and sensitivity, he draws on his own training experiences to suggest (1) possible areas of controversy (2) ways to guide participants in the questionnaire and scoring phases (3) post and narrate grouip results and (4) introduce participants to the tool’s self-interpretation sections. The guide also contains numerous “how to” illustrations.

- The Mother of All Minds: Leaping Free of an Outdated Human Nature. Dudley’s latest work on the Graves “biopsychosocial model” is also his most original, most evocative and, in many ways, most informative. He provides an “interior” view of the model, informed by his own experiences in changing levels of existence. Praised for its page-turning intensity and sense of personal discovery, the work combs modern psychology for insights supporting Dr. Graves’ conclusions that often surprise. PathPrimer® Instructional Guide
